Home Security
Monitoring
Home Security Monitoring is arguably an even more important
aspect of a home security system than the sensors and what most
people think of as the alarm system itself. Without proper and
reliable monitoring, a home security system can be as useless
as having no security system at all.
Alarm systems, the part
of a
home security system
that alerts someone when a sensor has been triggered, can be
either local or remote, or a combination of both. Local alarms
are typically very loud sounds either indoor, outdoor or both.
The intention of a local alarm is to scare off burglars before
they penetrate your home.
Local alarm sirens have become somewhat less
effective as urban citizens have become desensitized to the
sound of alarms. In rural areas local alarms may be ignored by
burglars altogether, as there is little chance that anyone else
will hear it and call the police. For these reasons, most home
security systems involve remote monitoring in addition to any
type of local alarm. In my opinion it is still worth installing
a local alarm, as in many cases it will indeed scare of
intruders before something worse happens.
Be sure you know what kind of remote alarm
service is included in any type of home security monitoring
service that you’re considering. There are several different
types and levels of responsiveness available from different
home security monitoring companies.
Do your homework. Some of the most affordable
home security monitoring services may only run automatic checks
of your system a couple of times per day. These are hardly
better than having only a local alarm siren. There are many
helpful consumer oriented websites where you can compare the
products and services of various home security companies. Once
you compare and contrast the service of several different
monitoring companies you’ll be better equipped to determine
which level of monitoring your home
requires.
